This Month...

November was designated as National Long-Term Care Awareness Month by the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance in 2001. This month-long observance highlights the long-term care needs of older Americans over the age of 65, and how they should be assisted in their daily lives. Above all, it’s also about displaying compassion and making them feel that they’re not alone or neglected. This month is dedicated to those older adults who do not have access to long-term care because everyone deserves the proper care and assistance. If you are looking for long-term care near you, or would like more information on long-term care, check out CareAvailability.

Other notable celebrations in the month of November include…
-Home Care and Hospice month
-Adoption Awareness month
-Veterans Day, November 11
-Thanksgiving, November 24
“November derives from the Latin root “novem” meaning “nine,” because in the Roman calendar there were only 10 months in the year, and November was indeed the ninth month.”

Missouri is nicknamed The Show-Me State. The origin of this nickname goes back to 1899, when Missouri Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver declared at a Naval Banquet in Philadelphia, “I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me.”

The Platte River valley is home to several historic stops along the Oregon Trail.

The official state motto of Nebraska is “Equality Before the Law.” In 2018, Nebraska tourism officials launched a new, delightfully deadpan slogan, “Honestly, it’s not for everyone.” The commission said, “if you like experiences that are unpretentious and uncomplicated, or if you enjoy creating your own fun or exploring the quirkiness the state has to offer, chances are, you will like it here.”
