This Month...

February is African American History Month and celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's history. February was chosen primarily because the second week of the month coincides with the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Lincoln was influential in the emancipation of slaves, and Douglass, a former slave, was a prominent leader in the abolitionist movement, which fought to end slavery. This year’s African American History Month theme, “Black Resistance,” explores how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression, in all forms, since the nation's earliest days. Read more about the history of this theme and African American History month at asalh.org.

This includes more than: 100 assisted living facilities, 80 skilled nursing facilities, and over 25 home health and hospice agencies.

North Dakota is nicknamed “The Peace Garden State,” because the International Peace Garden, a 3.65 square mile botanical park, straddles the international boundary between North Dakota and the Canadian province of Manitoba. In 1956, the North Dakota Motor Vehicle Department placed the words “Peace Garden State” on all license plates for the state.

North Dakota was admitted simultaneously with South Dakota on November 2, 1889. The state motto of North Dakota is “Liberty and Union, Now and Forever, One and Inseparable.”

Nevada is nicknamed “The Battle Born State”, as a result of when it achieved statehood. Nevada was the second of two states added to the Union during the Civil War, the first being West Virginia. Other nicknames Nevada has been called are “The Silver State” and “The Sagebrush State.”

Nevada was the 36th state to join the Union on October 31, 1864. The state motto of Nevada is “All for Our Country.”
